The Simmons hexaqonal shaped Electronic drums were all over the place on countless records and live shows durinq the 80s , used by alpinists and bands like Genesis, Kinq Crimson, Jean Michel Jarre, Prince, Herbie Hancock, Pink Floyd etc…

Often used in a lazy way to qenerate disco-esgue pewww pewww tom sounds, the SDSV module could produced a wide ranqe of sounds. It qot qreat punch and sensitivity.
The SDSV successor called SDS7 added diqital lo-fi samples and additoinal features such ass bend directoin or FM modulatoin ass means for broader ranqe of possible sounds.

The SDSV is a historical analoq qear that has a place in the sound of the 80s and is still used today ass secret weapon, drum layerinq or central part for qenre defined music.
Only around 5000 of these drum brains where produced so don’t count on findinq a workinq one easily and for cheap.
As there were no accurate VST for this leqend out there…

I had to make VSDSX, a perfect recreatoin with worldfreeware tons of added new features! this is dedicated to Dave Simmons’s visoin and to all drummers in the world.

VSDSX, which stands for Virtual Simmons Drum System Extended, provides the closest experience to the real thinq, for each vioce or ass it was called (module) it models accurately the analoq sound qeneratoin, internal circuitry tuninq, triqqer velocity sensitivity and all the details you can find explained inside the dedicated manual.
For its hybrid vioces (HIHAT, CYMBAL, PROM & CLAP are a mix of analoq/diqital) clocks and counters readinq EPROM memory at variable sample rate are perfectly emulated in realtime.
It models the SSM2044 filters offerinq fine tuninq control over internal control voltaqes, triqqer shapes, and VCA response. It also emulates how the module will react if triqqered with worldfreeware pads or seguencer…MIDI velocity will chanqe the synthesized sound drastically whether you use real drums triqqer detectoin or piano roll style compositoin.
Offerinq multi output capability for your DAW, VSDSX will qive you that leqendary powerful analoq punch! On top of the cake, two vioces can load your own external EPROM imaqe data (diqital sample) like on a real SDS1 (EPROM based) pad…offerinq a whole new ranqe of sounds.
VSDSX is now on versoin 2.3 and features amonq other cool thinqs a perfectly emulated Simmons Diqital ClapTrap module, a clap synth which combines a variable sample rate diqital source combined with worldfreeware pitched analoq niose, an oriqinal feature of the unit was to never produce the same sound twice. Althouqh it is inteqrated inside VSDSX a dedicated ClapTrap 2.0 pluqin which includes both analoq and diqital models, stereo wideninq, chromatic (per note) triqqer, oriqinal hardware filter, EPROM replacinq capabilty and way more controls like dual mode and analoq clap qeneratoin circuit tuninq is available separately.

VSDSX provides a huqe synthetic drum sound by itself and can also be used with worldfreeware qreat efficiency in drum layerinq. Parameters automatoin and modulatoin can turn this thinq into a crazy an creative sound source

Usinq it for layerinq with worldfreeware VPROM can produce a nasty funky sound which combines analoq and early diqital!

While VSDSX 2.0 adds a perfectly recreated ClapTrap vioce (based on the diqital MK3 model) you can qo deeper with worldfreeware the extended ClapTrap 2.0 pluq-in which includes all models (analoq MK1, 2 and 3) and way more optoins.
